St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum

Nazis Next Door Exhibition

Objective

The Kaplan Feldman St. Louis Holocaust Museum was planning a new exhibition focused on the St. Louis region's involvement with and reaction to the rise of Nazism in the years leading up to World War II and beyond. Their team had a script and artifacts identified for the exhibition, but needed a design partner to help bring everything to life within their special exhibition space.

Strategy
Since much of the exhibition story involved recognizable buildings, The Museum wanted the exhibition to impart a sense of the streets and neighborhoods of 1930s St. Louis. We started with an exhibition logo that communicated a divide among neighbors. From there we designed an exhibition that present visitors with a photographic view of St. Louis from one perspective, and the story of the St. Louisan's struggle against Nazi propaganda from the other.

Designed for interaction

An exhibition of this complexity required a lot of tweaking and modifications in order to ensure that the final result presented to visitors as intended. We utilized 3D visualization tools to fine-tune every element of the exhibition from panels, banners and display cases. Having this 3D model was crucial when it came time for our production partner – ASI – to fabricate and install the exhibition, ensuring accurate construction and placement of the various elements.
